How to Back Up PS3 Saved Data After Red or Yellow Light of Death?
Though you were upset with the dreaded red/yellow light of death on your ps3, are you now worried if it would be possible to backup those ps3 hard drive saved data?
Well, if you send your ps3 to Sony, you’ll lose all your game data…because you will either get a refurbished one or a reformatted wiped out hard drive. Either way, you’ll lose all the saved data.
However you can try to recover those data with the help of the options shown on DIY ps3 lights fix repair guide by Rob Sheffield besides you can save 0+ on the repair cost if your PS3 is out of warranty.
Recently my PS3 started blinking red light which turned to yellow light later, when I was playing Modern Warfare 2. Since my ps3 was out of warranty Sony said they would charge me 0 + Shipping & Handling charges to fix my PS3 and I have to wait for 4-6 weeks.
Since I didn’t want to spend that much money and also didn’t like to wait for 6 weeks without playing my favorite games Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto, I thought why not let me try to fix my PS3 myself. But first I have to get some book or guide that should tell me all about this Yellow Light of Death and How to fix it.
I then saw a website called ps3 lights fix by Rob Sheffield – a PS3 repair expert offering a simple guide with detailed Videos, Guides, One-on-one help and 24/7 Support. The guide promised to be perfect for beginners.
The guide for the promotional price includes
5 videos A 67 page eBook with easy to follow step-by-step instructions and many full color pictures. Chapters include Cooling it down, The Reset Trick, Clean your PS3 internally (video), Format the newly installed Hard Drive, PS3 Freezing Fix, PS3 Red Screen Of Death Fix, Power Supply Malfunction, Hard Drive Failure/Reinstallation (video), Motherboard Problems (video)and Fix Blu-Ray Drive Access to members area 24/7 Support and one-on-one help, when needed!
The guide detailed how to permanently fix the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD), Red Light, repair blu-ray drive and 3 beeps issue.
With the help of this repair guide by Rob Sheffield, it took me almost 2 hrs to fix my problem and I felt it was safe and easy and hell the videos helped me a lot. They are detailed and to the point, even I…. repaired my PS3 with this guide. Being a beginner I was little nervous and doubted myself if I could fix my PS3 all by myself, thanks to Rob Sheffield I’ve resumed playing all my favorite games without sending it to Sony besides saving a whopping money of 0
The guide also includes an ebook ’How to Retain the Hard Drive Data’, which exactly explains how to back up PS3 saved data after red or yellow light of death (YLOD).
The guide explains basically two options to do this.

How can I get my flash drive to retain data?
Sep 19th
Question by theresalinton@att.net: How can I get my flash drive to retain data?
I have a new 16g Kingston drive, which I used to back up my 20g PS3 to put my game saves and downloaded videos onto my new 320g HDD. However, when plugging it back in, no files could be found. All the correct folders were created for the backups, but they were all empty. After several more attempts to figure it out, I just resorted to using my 1g Lexair drive to move things in small amounts, figuring it may just be a PS3 thing. Now, however, it seems it may be the drive itself. I’ve been using MWP to rip songs from CDs directly to my drive, and while verifying they exist in the folders prior to removing the drive, they are no longer there when I reinsert it, only the base folder (that is, WMP will create a hierarchy of Bush>Sixteen Stone>WMA file, which I can see, but when I reinsert the drive, the WMAs and the Sixteen Stone file are gone, leaving nothing beyond the initial Bush folder). I have discovered that if I move the audio files from the Album folder to the drive’s root, they will be retained when I next insert the drive. And to answer the obvious questions, yes it has been formatted to FAT32, and yes, I always click “Safely remove hardware” before removing it. Any thoughts/suggestions on what I can do, if anything? (Other than “Kingston sucks” advice, that is lol!) Thanks!

If the flash drive is locked then it wont keep the information. Make sure it is unlocked before trying to put information on it or retrieving information from it. Lock it when not in use that’s the only thing i could think of that would make it not hold the information.

Yes you can copy your data but that would be considered piracy and hacking but I did it anyway and I did not get caught.

open up the busted ps3 and take out the HDD. then go to a frys or what ever electronics computer store might be in your area and buy a HDD encloser for laptop HDDs which is in the ps3. set that up and plug it into your pc… if nothing happend then sorry your HDD is fried… but if not then it should pop up like a flash drive then just copy the files over. to a flash drive and pop the flash drive into your ps3. you cant get the games back though… sorry your friend has to come back over and allow you to re-dl the games from the ps store again. Hope this helps… GL.

How do I copy the game saved data I put on a USB back onto my PS3 ?
Sep 7th
Question by samir _: How do I copy the game saved data I put on a USB back onto my PS3 ?
I recently formatted my PS3 and before I did, I put all my game saved data onto a USB drive. However, whenever I try to copy it back, the PS3 won’t recognize the USB in the “Game” section. It recognizes it everywhere else and the files within the saved game file are called something like BLUS 08422.

Is it possible to copy saved game data from the PS3 onto a USB flash drive to open on another PS3 like a memory card?

yes and no. While the PS3 is capable of transferring saved data onto external drives like flash drives, some games’ save files are locked, probably to prevent people from getting free trophies.
Some games you can transfer save data, some you can’t. I know you can’t with RE5, but I think you can with LittleBigPlanet.

Q&A: Can someone help me with choosing something to backup data on my PS3?
Aug 27th
Question by Matthew: Can someone help me with choosing something to backup data on my PS3?
I have a 120GB PS3 slim. I didn’t realize the amount of data stuff on a PS3 takes up. I still have at least 70GBs left, but I want to buy something to back up data on(because a 2GB flash drive or SD card doesn’t cut it). Also I would like to know if you can have more than one Hard disk(have saved data on one hard disk, and saved data on another. So you can switch them back and fourth like a memory card for the PS2). This would help a lot, because apparently if you want to re-download the shows you bought, well you must buy them again. Unlike with games you download.

I say you go with an external Hard drive. It is very portable and you can always put the information back on the PS3′s hard drive. The external drive will hold all those GB’s and there not too much money. All you need is a 250gb or 500gb if you want a lot of info on it and you can use it with you computer also.
Its a great investment exspecially with PS3 and computers which either can break or get nasty viruses.

Switching 40gb HDD with 120GB on PS3…Game data Help?
Aug 22nd
Question by Ahsan Q: Switching 40gb HDD with 120GB on PS3…Game data Help?
O.K. I searched online that I can make a backup of the whole PS3 on an External HDD, which i have that is 469GB Space Free. I even found out that when you put in the new HDD on the PS3 and restore the PS3 system as it was on the last HDD, By Formatting the new HDD to put the backup files. I was wondering, my PC laptop’s HDD is 120GB with 5,400RPM,exact like is should be for a PS3, I was going to switch that with my 40GB HDD. I got 2 questions, 1.) Putting my laptop’s HDD to PS3, will it format it entirely(it has option to do so) and restore it completely? 2.) Will my GTA IV ONLINE data status still be the same? I’m currently 6 starred online and don’t want to lose my hard work on that. Please help me before I put new HDD on PS3!!
For those of you askin me why im switching HDD, it has 5GB left, only 2 games added nothing else and it is full already.

Yes, the ps3 will format the drive completey. You will loose anything you had on your laptop harddrive.
Your GTA4 status will not be harmed. It is stored on a server, not your local drive.
